Cornbread
Cornbread is a delicious American specialty traditionally made from cornmeal or corn flour.
It’s perfect for breakfast, toasted, or served alongside meats as a tasty alternative to traditional bread.
There are countless recipes online, as it seems every American family has their own version.
IngrEdients
125 g cornmeal
100 g all-purpose flour (T55 equivalent)
1 tsp baking powder
A pinch of salt
100 g softened butter
40 g brown sugar
2 tbsp honey
1 egg
200 ml buttermilk (a fermented milk similar to what is commonly used in American recipes)
prEparation
Preheat the oven to 200°C (about 400°F). Butter and flour a cake pan.
In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the egg, softened butter, brown sugar, and honey, then pour in the buttermilk. Whisk everything together until smooth.
baking
Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the top is lightly golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.
Once slightly cooled, you can start enjoying it sliced with a bit of butter and honey. You can also cut the cornbread into pieces, toast them in a pan, and serve with butter or jam.
Cornbread can be stored for about a week if well wrapped in a kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
